Norwegians chasing Old John 03/03/05
Norweigian giants Valerenga are hoping to secure the services of former Bafana Bafana captain Old John Mabizela.

The 24-year-old defender has been without a club since being released by Tottenham Hotspur in October.

He returned to South Africa and has since turned out for the national team in the Cosafa Cup, but Valerenga chairman Kjetil Siem is hoping to lure the player to Scandinavia.

"He is 24 years old now and you cannot be a poor player if you are the national team captain for South Africa at an age of 21 or 22 years," he told newspaper VG.

"But he has a special CV, so we have to talk to him and his agent first. There has been some talking about him not showing up for training with his clubs after being with the national team."

Fellow Norweigian outfit Rosenborg are also chasing his signature, as are Swedish giants Djurgarden.
