Still licking their wounds after a loss to Swallows on Friday night, Bidvest Wits are back to action when they host Santos in a Castle premiership match on Wednesday night.
The People`s team has been boosted by the return of their successful mentor, Clive 'The Dog' Barker. Barker is the coach who changed the Santos fortunes when he steered them to the Bob Save Super Bowl success in 2001 and helped them qualify for the top 8 finish for the first time in the history of the team. That was the same season the People`s team were voted the 'Most Improved team of the Season'.
The Dog has already marked his return as he steered his side to a 2-0 win over Bloemfontein Celtics last week. However, Barker is renowned for always having good starts and failing to keep up the momentum as time goes by.
The Dog was always on top of the log when the season started while at Zulu Royals, then known as AmaZulu but failed to keep up with the momentum as the team started a downward route before ending have to fight for relegation. He also had a similar graph at Bafana Bafana and Manning Rangers.
The Clever boys, Bidvest Wits are not showing any cleverness on the pitch this season and their log position is a cause of concern for coach, De Sa. They last won a league game on the 12th of February when they beat Golden Arrows 2-1 at Bidvest. After that they lost to 2-0 to both Black Leopards and Moroka Swallows.
Santos lost the first round encounter by 2 goals to nil at Athlone and they do need to get their revenge as they need the points to move away from relegation zone.
If the Students fail to win this one, then it would be fair for them to forget about qualifying for the supa 8.
