Absa announced at this morning's Absa Cup semi-final draw that they are to increase the prize money by R1 million, making the tournament the richest domestic Cup competition in Africa.
The draw for the Absa Cup semi-final was announced at the Absa Towers in Johannesburg this morning.
Current SAA Supa 8 champions, SuperSport United, who were also the Coca-Cola Cup finalists and are looking to reach a third final of the season. have been drawn to play against the 2003 Champions, Santos.
The other semi-final will take place between Dynamos, who knocked Orlando Pirates out in the quarter-final stage, and Wits University, who were responsible for the elimination of the two other Soweto Giants, Kaizer Chiefs and the defending champions, Moroka Swallows.
The dates and venues are still to be announced.
Speaking at the draw this morning, Absa's Brendan O'Donnell announced that the sponsors are set to increase the prize money by a massive R1 million, making the Absa tournament the richest domestic Cup competition in Africa.
Of the R1 million, R500 000 is to go towards covering the travel expenses of the winning team's campaign in the African Cup Winners Cup next season.
