South African coach Stuart Baxter has not given up hope on Livingston midfielder Burton O'Brien becoming a Bafana Bafana international.
O'Brien, who has also played for Blackburn Rovers, is at the centre of an international tug-of-war after the Scottish Football Association ruled that the 23-year-old is ineligible to play for South Africa.
Baxter, however, will travel to the United Kingdom this week to have one last meeting with the Johannesburg-born star. The former England under/19 boss points to similiar cases handled recently by FIFA as reason for his optimism.
"I'm coming across to watch Livingston on Saturday and I will be speaking to Burton after the game," Baxter told The Scotsman.
I've read about the comments from the SFA, but they are forgetting that a precedent has been set for this by FIFA who allowed a couple of Morocco players to play who were over 21.
"Burton has applied for a South African passport and we are still talking to FIFA about his clearance."
