Bitter-sweet for Baxter 05/05/05
Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter has some mixed injury news ahead of next month's World Cup qualifier against the Cape Verde Islands.

Baxter travelled to England recently to assess the fitness of some of his star players ahead of the crucial match and also catch up with their respective club bosses.

The good news is that perennially-injured midfielder Quinton Fortune is fit and ready, despite him only coming on as a late substitute in the match between Manchester United and Charlton.

Said Baxter: "I watched the game in order to have a look at Quinton but he only came on as a late substitute. He is fit and ready."

However, the news on Shaun Bartlett was less encouraging.

The Charlton ace has missed the last four weeks through a knee injury and Baxter wasn't too optimistic about the striker's chances, saying: "It is touch-and-go with Shaun for Cape Verde."
