Moroka Swallows will be playing at the legendary Orlando Stadium for a couple of games in December as a way of reconnecting with its roots, says the club's Chief Operating Officer Gavin Bernstein.
Swallows have opted to play their two upcoming home fixtures against Silver Stars FC (Wed 07/12/2005) and Orlando Pirates (Sun 18/12/2005) at Orlando.
"Playing at Orlando Stadium will provide us with an opportunity to get back to one of the places where Swallows made its name," Bernstein told the Moroka Swallows website..
The Beautiful Birds go back to Soweto after having last played a game there in on the 16th November this year against Jomo Cosmos. Before that they had played their last game the sprawling township in 1996 (against Manning Rangers).
When asked whether Swallows would consider staying at Orlando beyond the upcoming fixtures, Bernstein said that unfortunately they couldn't as the venue would be closed immediately after the Pirates match for renovations.
But given a good crowd response from the next two matches, the Birds' management might entertain the idea quite favorably in the future.
On another note, the COO also confirmed that Swallows would not be following the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Ajax Cape Town in making plans to acquire its own stadium, at least not in the near future.
"The idea is a brilliant one but we will not be thinking about it, not just as yet as we are still working on rebuilding other aspects of the club," said Bernstein.
Both games kickoff at 15h45.
