Moroka Swallows suffered a major blow to their Premier Soccer League title aspirations on Wednesday when inspirational defender Warren Lewis broke his ankle.
The 32-year-old has been a pillar of strength at the back as the Beautiful Birds have put themselves in with a great chance of winning their first ever PSL title, with only Wits University and Orlando Pirates standing in their way.
However, the loss of the former Wits, Amazulu and Pirates man will severely test the character of the rest of the team.
Swallows coach Gavin Hunt confirmed it was a freak training ground accident.
We were just having a practice game and he went over on his ankle. The doctors later confirmed it was broken, meaning hell be out for at least six months.
Well reassess the situation tomorrow to see who will fill his place, he added.
The Birds title credentials will be tested to the fullest on Sunday when they travel to Milpark for a crucial clash against the Clever Boys.
