The prognosis for the recovery of Swallows' defender Warren Lewis is better than first expected, with the 32-year-old likely to be back in action in three to four months. After going over on his left ankle in training on Wednesday, it had been feared the Bafana Bafana star might be out for anything up to six months.
But after a successful operation on the injury on Thursday, team doctor Ephram Nematswerani believes Lewis will be back in action sooner than that.
The incident occurred in what was described by Beautiful Birds coach Gavin Hunt as a "freak" training ground accident, Lewis had an X-ray on the ankle two-days-ago after finding he was unable to stand on it.
The findings of that X-ray confirmed that there was a fracture to the joint and an Orthopedic Surgeon was brought in to operate.
Lewis will miss the Birds exciting run-in to the Premier Soccer League season which sees them vying with Orlando Pirates and Wits University for the title.
