Quinton Fortune's decision to withdraw from the South African squad to face Jamaica in a friendly international at the Athlone Stadium on Wednesday night has not gone down well with Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba.
The national boss is angry that his star midfielder has pulled out at the 11th hour with a supposed hip injury, although those in the know would suggest it was more a decision of Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson than the player.
"If I have 11 players and reserves on the bench, people must expect results," Mashaba told Kickoff.com. "People must be aware that you are not winning games because of who is in the team; it is about what you can do for your country. I leave Quinton's problem to the public to judge and make a decision."
Fortune played as a substitute in the Red Devils win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, looking fit and setting up the second goal for Ruud Van Nistelrooy.
And the Fortune problem does not look like an isolated one, with Sibusiso Zuma and Emile Baron not having shown up either.
