Bartlett Blasted For Comments 05/05/03
Bafana Bafana team manager Stanley Screamer Tshabalala has launched a scathing attack on Shaun Bartlett following the strikers recent comments regarding South African football.

Bafana Bafana team manager Stanley Screamer Tshabalala has launched a scathing attack on Shaun Bartlett following the strikers recent comments regarding South African football.

The Charlton Athletic star blasted SAFA in a recent interview, saying they were snubbing overseas-based players like himself, Mark Fish and Lucas Radebe in favour of locally-based players.

They prefer local-based players and so do the fans back home because those are the players they see week in and week out, he told BBC last week.

It's the pressure they get and the people they have to please. The people who are running the federation own the big clubs in South Africa as well so they lean towards those players.

He also hit out at SAFA for forcing the players to organise their own visas and travel arrangements for a recent training camp in Spain a get-together he missed and which has subsequently led to him being overlooked for national team duty.

I didn't go because I was asked to get my own visa and pay my own flight. I wasn't prepared to do that and since then they have turned around and said that I don't want to play for them, he added.

However, Tshabalala has denied the accusations and accused Bartlett f trying to cause unrest within the squad.

As far as I am concerned, Bartlett received numerous call-ups by the coach and showed his lack of patriotism by snubbing his country, he told The City Press.

Now he wants to drag other players into the mess by bad-mouthing Safa. Let him address his own problems with Safa and stop using other people to help him carry out his ill-conceived personal agenda.

Nonetheless, Bartletts continued absence from the national team is costing the country dearly, which the inexperience in front of goal shown up badly in last weeks goalless draw against Jamaica.

Is Bartlett spot-on wih his coments or just an unpatriotic fool? with your views...
