Swallows midfield star Jabu Mendu is the latest player from the club to write an exclusive column for Morokaswallows.co.za. This week Jabu talks about the game against Santos, the team's defence and the spirit in the camp at the moment!
The challenge for the league title has been an exciting one this year and despite our slightly disappointing draw with Santos on Saturday and Pirates' win this week, we still have to believe we can win in.
We will need to win our remaining three games against Jomo Cosmos, Kaizer Chiefs and Golden Arrows and hope that Pirates lose their two final matches, but we won't give up until the title is mathematically out of our grasp.
I must say I have been amazed by the spirit in the camp following the draw against Santos. I thought that everybody might be a bit down, but on the contrary everyone is really upbeat and looking forward to our three remaining games. There is an unbelievable atmosphere around the place.
In order to win those we are going to have to tighten up our defence, which has been poor in the last few games. We have had problems with injury and suspension that have made the life of coach Gavin Hunt extremely difficult, but there is no doubt we have thrown away desperately needed points, going all the way back to the Wits game which we drew 2-2.
I feel it is a matter of concentration for the guys. If you lose that for just a few seconds it means you can give away easy goals, and in the end we only have our selves to blame.
Anyhow, that is in the past and it is now do-or-die for us. If we can't win the league, we must make sure we finish second in order to gain a place in the African Champions League next season.
On a personal note, I am feeling fine after I took a knock in the Santos game. I was out for a few days but am now back in training and raring to go.
