Swallows' young defender Jermaine Christian is the latest player from the club to write an exclusive column for Morokaswallows.co.za. This week Jermaine talks about the game against Arrows, the team's disappointment at finishing fourth and his first season at Swallows!
What a disappointing finish to the season! After getting so close to African Champions League soccer the guys are all upset that we could not hold onto second place in the PSL.
Fourth is still a good finish, but we know we should have done better for the club, the supporters, and our coach Gavin Hunt.
We know we only have ourselves to blame. We had a discussion about it in the changing room after the defeat to Golden Arrows and we all agreed we had let ourselves down with the way we played.
Gavin was furious with us and we were all sorry for him. He is a great coach to work for and we wanted to finish second for him, but at the end of the day, it was not to be.
But all in all it has been a great season for us and at times we have played some wonderful soccer.
It is my first year here at Swallows and I must say I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. We have a great side with the likes of Gary McNab, Jabu Mendu, Lucas Sebona, as well as youngsters such as Greg Etafia and Japie Motale.
I also am grateful to Gavin for giving me the chance to play. He helped me a lot with my confidence this season and he works us very hard, which for me is good.
The guys are taking a bit of a break now but will be back on June 26 for pre-season training. I am going to keep working hard up until then, keeping fit and in the gym.
Even though the season has just finished, I cannot wait for the new one to start. There is so much to look forward to with the new SAA Super Eight tournament and Confederations Cup football as well!
Finally, a special thank-you to the supporters, who have been brilliant for us this year. We hope that next season we can give you some silverware!
Until next time,
Would you like to send Jermaine a message? and we will pass it on......
