Hellenics left-footed midfielder Warren Budde is keen on making a good impression on new coach Clemens Westerhof and get off to a great start to the Premier League next season.
Last season we did not start off well, we played against strong teams in our first few games and struggled, the changing of coaches did not help our cause. Our confidence as individuals was damaged, and the morale of the team low. Ive heard that Clemens Westerhof is with us now, and hes got a good pedigree in football. Im looking forward to starting the season with an experienced coach like him. Budde said.
The 21-year-old Budde played for the William Carey College football team in Mississippi, U.S.A, for two years. He is grateful to Terry Cunningham for inviting him for trials at Hellenic.
I was the top goal scorer for two years at my club and also drafted into the All-American College team. It was a great achievement for me, as it was a team representing colleges from all over America. I was very happy when I came to Hellenic for trials and succeeded, Ive been with the team since January 2000 and will be here until 2005.
Budde is no stranger to success and is confident that Hellenic can achieve greater heights in the Premier league. They just escaped relegation but he is positive about next season.
We avoided relegation through the confidence and expertise Neil Tovey brought to the club. He is well respected in South Africa and, with him being a former National captain, automatically had respect from the players. We did well in the Absa Cup and this was due to us being confident, and Tovey bringing new ideas to the camp. Im certain next season well do better, were a young team and need time to become better, and we have in the last part of the season when we won games as our livelihood depended on it.
The young Budde is one for the future; and is looking forward to being called up for the under-23, or even for Bafana Bafana.
Its every players dream, and I want to prove that Im good enough to be competing with the best on an international level. I am disappointed in not being called up for the National under-23s, but Ive got time on my side and will work hard next year to make it there.
Hellenics pre-season training starts on the 30th June, and Budde is raring to go, and with his determination to succeed, he is definitely one to watch for the future.
