Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Andre Arendse has left Cape Town side Santos to join Sundowns in Pretoria. Arendse has been a lynch-pin for the Peoples Team in recent seasons and his departure will be a major blow for Boebie Solomons' side.
Santos CEO Goolam Allie confirmed the departure of the international, who has been capped 60 times by South Africa and was recently included in Shakes Mashaba's squad for the friendly international against Trinidad and Tobago next weekend.
"We have lost a great player," Allie told IOL. "But there was nothing we could do. His contract was at an end. His loss is sad but unavoidable.
"He added value to Santos and contributed to the magnificent wave of success that has seen the club win four trophies in the past three years.
"But we wish him everything of the best. Everything was done in a professional manner and he leaves the club amicably," Allie added.
Arendse, 36, has played at the highest level in South Africa for a number of seasons, after also plying his trade in the English Second Division with Oxford and Fulham.
He will be hoping to lead a revival at the Brazilians, who failed to reach the SAA Super Eights for next season and were recently knocked out of the CAF Cup by Cameroonian side Cottonsport.
