Orlando Pirates have just released the names of the players whose services are no longer required in the Buccaneers squad.
Amongst those to be released are stalwart defenders Willem Jackson, Gerald Raphahlela, Innocent Chikoya and Tomas Inguana All of these players have given excellent service to the club over the years and will be sorely missed by the Pirates faithful.
They have had to make way as coach Roy Baretto continues to look to younger players as he builds up the Pirates squad.
Since the rise of young stars such as Mbulelo Mabizela, Lucky Lekgwathi and Jimmy Tau., the older players have been getting less and less game time and so it comes as no surprise that the club has decided to release them.
Dumisa Ngobe, who although is currently playing at First Division outfit City Sharks but is still on the Buccaneers books, will also be having his contract terminated.
Ngobe is currently sitting out a one-year ban (suspended for two-years) after being found guilty of assaulting a referee.
The former Free State Stars duo of Goodman Mazibuko and Michel Babale have also been released, which may come as a surprise to some after these two players had a fairly successful campaign last time round.
Mazibuko went on to become a Bafana Bafana international after some fine performances last season, but will now have to look for another club.
Others to be released include Rodney Petlele, Stanley Sibeko, Siyabonga Nkosi, Keorapetse Makgale and Thabo Phiri.
