Slow Poison Off To France 01/08/03
Lesley "Slow Poison" Manyathela could become the latest South African soccer star to secure himself a move to a top European club.

Manyathela is set to leave tonight for a trial with top French team Olympique Lyon.

Lyon are the current French champions and this would mean that the 22-year-old Musina-born player would get a chance to compete amongst the World's top players in the lucrative Champions League competition.

The club also featured in the recent Peace Cup in South Korea where they lost to Dutch team PSV in the final.

Manyathela recently went for trials at Greek club OFI. Although it was reported that the Premier Soccer League's (PSL) leading marksman impressed the staff at the island club, he was not able to secure a contract due to the fact that he was still struggling with an ankle injury.

Manyathela's agent Mike Makaab said that he would soon organise another trial for the Pirates man, and has proved to be a man of his word as he has now handed Manyathela the opportunity of a lifetime to make a name for himself in one of the world's strongest leagues.

If Slow Poison does complete the move, he will be joining a number of top African strikers who ply their trade in France, including the league's top goal scorer Shabani Nonda of the DRC, as well as Didier Drogba of the Ivory Coast who finished with 17 goals to his name, and Senegal's Henri Camara, who has just signed for English Premiership side Wolves.
