Lota Feeling Confident 07/08/03
Dennis Lota is a vastly experienced striker, having helped Orlando Pirates to the PSL title, as well as having over 70 international caps to his name. Now he is with the Birds, and could prove to be coach Gavin Hunt's most astute signing yet.

The Morokaswallows.co.za website caught up with the man who became known as "Chesa Mpama" during his time at Pirates and asked him for his views on a number of subjects...

On His preferred striking partner...
Swallows have a number of excellent strikers such as Shaun Permall, Keryn Jordan and now they have just signed Mark McVeigh. It makes no difference to me who I play with upfront. I have played with many different strikers throughout my career and have always found a way to adapt. It is up to each player to learn how best to combine with his fellow striker.

On the role he sees for himself in the team...
In the past I have preferred to play as a supporting striker (I actually started out as a midfielder), not as a targetman, although I will play wherever the coach needs me. I like to be able to drop deeper in order to pick up the ball and create chances for the other striker, as well as taking on defenders and scoring myself.

On playing in the 1st Division...
I am happy to be back in the PSL. Last season was a difficult time for me as the First division is very tough. The defenders take no prisoners and you have no time on the ball. The standard of referring can be very poor as well.

On whether Dennis feels he has anything to prove on his return to the PSL...
I don't think that I have anything to prove to anyone. My record while I was at Pirates speaks for itself, as well as my international record. It is going to be good playing in the PSL again - I am really looking forward  to testing myself against the country's top defenders.

On Coach Gavin Hunt...
Gavin is a great coach. I have played under many in my career and I can honestly say he is up their with the best.
I like his coaching methods  He is always very open with the players and is a good communicator. I think Swallows fans will see my best under him.

On Swallows chances of success...
I really think the team can go far this season. We have basically the same squad and management team as last season plus we have added some quality players. People say that we will miss Jabu Mendu. I don't agree because that is the nature of the game - players leave and then somebody else also steps up to seize the opportunity - no-one is irreplaceable. I thinks the fans can definitely look forward to some silverware this season.
