Swallows Rise To Third Place 07/12/03
Moroka Swallows fought off a late attack from Golden Arrows to win 2-1 in a Castle Premiership at the Rand Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Dube Birds have moved up to third place with 23 points on the Castle Premiership table and are one point behind leaders Santos.

Abafana Bes'thende remain on 10 points from 11 games played and lie twelfth on the Castle Premiership log.

Swallows dictated the pace of the game in the first half and this was evident when speedy right winger Lucas Sebona scored two goals for the home side.

The midfield star scored in the 28th and 44th minute to give his team a comfortable lead going into the break.

Arrows came back stronger in the second half but could not manage to score the equalising goals.

Mlungisi Gumbi scored in the 75th minute for the visitors, but thereafter the Birds defence, marshalled by captain Gary McNab, weathered their surging attacks for another goal.
