Moroko Swallows Under-19's have advanced through the group stages of the popular Metropolitan Tournament this past weekend. The Young Birds finished in the top four thereby earning their place among the elite of Under-19 football in South Africa.
Teams from around the country, including the likes of School of Excellence, Orlando Pirates, Tuks and Kaizer Chiefs, descend on Cape Town to join local clubs Ajax Cape Town and Santos to produce a feast of football over the Easter period.
The tournament annually produces a high level of skill. Talent scouts from the various Premier Soccer League (PSL) clubs are spotted around the fields eager to swoop for the next Bafana Bafana star.
Bafana Bafana exile and FC Porto star Benni McCarthy is one of the many stars to have emerged from the tournament.
Current Swallows senior coach, Gavin Hunt, along with Colin Gie, lead the Hellenic Colts team in the early 1990's to an unprecedented five consecutive titles.
The challenge previously known as the Bay Hill Tournament will played from the 7 - 12 April, 2004.
