Carlo Scott, the striker of whom so much was expected when he moved from Ajax Cape to Sundowns a couple of season's ago, says that he is going to recover his old form with the Beautiful Birds.
Speaking to Swallows web site, he shed some light as to what went wrong when he first moved to Johannesburg from Cape Town.
A lot of people expected you continue your good form with Sundowns, what went wrong at the Brazilians?
Scott: The pressure of playing in Gauteng was too much for me and also because of the amount of money that was paid for me, everyone was expecting me to do miracles. Also the way soccer is played in Johannesburg is very different from Cape Town.
How did your move to Swallows come about?
Scott: I was not happy at Sundowns because of the pressure and I thought it would be better to go back to Cape Town, but the clubs there could not afford me.
Luckily the Swallows management believed in me and thought that I would be able to once again play my best football with the Birds and therefore they signed me.
How have you been finding things with the Bird's so far?
Scott: The players have been wonderful to me so far, I have found it easy to interact with them even though I am still very new at the club.
How has it been to play under coach Gavin Hunt?
Scott: I found Gavin a very easy guy to play under, it is not the first time that I have played under him. He was in charge of a select team that I played for in Cape Town against Ajax Cape Town.
How did he react after Swallows lost so heavily to Santos?
Scott: Man, that match made him cross, even us players, we were not happy with our performance because Swallows are still in the running for the league title and losing like that is not what is expected from a team that really wants to win the championship.
Do you feel that the competition for a place in the team is high?
Scott: Swallows have a lot of talented players who give their all at training in order to be selected for the team on match day. My joining the side has pushed all the players to work even harder and I have to work extra hard to justify my place.
Do you think that Swallows can win the title?
Scott: Look man, the title is still open and all the top five teams have a chance to win it, but with Swallows it is different because of the kind of players in the side.
They play with all their hearts in every game and that extra willingness to fight for the team is what will get us to the top.
What is your future in SA football?
Scott: I have set myself a target. I want to be 100% fit first and start playing my old type of football again. I want to show the people who have been saying that I am finished what I can do.
I think with Gavin Hunt and the players who are at Swallows, we can go a long way. The Swallows management believed in me and I want to show them that they were right, everything will follow after that.
What are the Swallows fans going to see from you?
Scott: First I believe that Gavin is a great football tactician and I think that he is going to bring the best from me, the supporters will be pleased with the end result.
