Birds Keep Pace At The Top 12/12/04
Moroka Swallows moved up into third position on the Castle Premiership log after they beat Jomo Cosmos 2-1 at the Herman Immerlman Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Cecil Oerson was the hero of the day for the Birds with his brace, while Chris Katongo continued with his impressive goal scoring form of late when he pulled one back for Ezenkhosi.

The Birds opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Innocent Chickoya crossed to Oerson, who controlled the ball well, and then turned and fired in a grass-cutter, which beat Cosmos keeper Avril Phali at the near post.

In the 31st minute Chickoya played a one-two with Shaun Permall before crossing to Oerson, who was off target on this occasion.

Three minutes later, however, the former Bloemfontein Celtic striker doubled the lead for the hosts after receiving a pass from Pitso Lekone.

Cosmos then pulled a goal back in the 38th minute when Katongo beat the Birds defence before firing in a shot at the near post.

In the 44th minute Ezenkhosi defender Morgan Gould missed a glorious opportunity when he headed over the bar with the Swallows defence struggling to pick him up.

The second stanza did not produce as many goal chances, with Albert Kometsi's goalbound shot which was deflected for a corner by Katongo being one of the few chances to score.

Cosmos tried hard to come back into the match, but lacked the necessary fire power to trouble the Beautiful Birds, who were able to comfortably hold out for the win, which moves them up into third place on the Castle premiership log.
