Gary McNab has done a great job in keeping Birds fans up-to-date with the latest happenings in the nest, but for the nest few weeks Maimane Alfred Phiri takes over the job...
Its my great pleasure to be your writer for the next two weeks - Mr. Mcnab did well, but Im takin over baby, hope the information I give you will be as useful.!
As you noticed I was not part of the last game of the league against Silver Stars due to my suspension, but hey, my team mates did very well and we won 1 - 0.
Now enough about me - lets get back to the real business!!!!!!
On Tuesday the 10th March 2005 we travelled to Ethekwini (Durban) to go head to head with Manning Rangers, the team that lost the ABSA Cup and made us look good.
We arrived in Durbz around 13:00, went straight to the Hotel relaxed a bit and around 18:00 we were hard at training. The following morning we had a light session of training around 16:00 the players, the coach and the technical staff started preparing for the actual game.
The game was on - we started off well, we were all over them like a pack of wolves in the first half and by half time the score was 0 - 0. We continued the same way in the second half then started slacking and lost our pattern of play which gave our opponents the upper hand as they could detect our frustration for a goal. The game then ended on a 0 - 0 note, which led us to extra time.
Cecil Oerson then showed Rangers whoz Boss by scoring the first goal, Rangers then equalised by a goal from one of our former trialist Macdonald 'Skuta' Mukansi. The game then ended on a 1 - 1 note Mmmmm!!, now a minute before the full time Rangers did something extremely bazaar by substituting their goal keeper (who might I add had a good game)... How weird is that?
By this time we all knew that our coach had already drawn up the penalty list.
On penalties: we started off with Rangers kicking first - and to their disappointment they missed
Then we came to me 'Maimane Alfred Phiri'. I looked at those poles and gave it my best shot. It went in on the left corner, Tlale followed but he still missed, It was a goal. Oh yeah!
Rangers prayers were answered and they managed to score their next kick.
'Chesa Mmpama Lota' also managed to score one for the Birds.
So much for answered prayers - 'Mukansi' tried his luck but Greg Etafia was on top of the situation (You go Gregie).
Our third penalty was to be taken by Mr. Mcnab but he got cold feet. Gary! Gary! Gary! The penalty was then taken by Meshack 'Chippa'Lekone aaahh!! The short one gave us another goal.
Rangers came back again and it was goal.
The honours were left to Mr. Innocent 'Shabba' Chikoya who scored us our victory goal, and once again Swallows taught Rangers whoz boss.
No hard feelings Boys, you played a good game.
Its a pity all our supporters couldnt be there to share our victory in making it to the last 8, but to those who were there and those who travelled from far, we would like to say : Siyabonga, Re a leboha, thank you, enkosi, dankie and keep flying high with us.
We came back on Thursday 10th and relaxed a bit, it was training as usual on Friday.
We had the weekend off thanks to our coach!
