Birds Fight Back To Claim Three Points 02/05/05
Moroka Swallows fought back from a goal down to earn an important victory over Bloemfontein Celtic at the Rand Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Heading into next week's showdown against Kaizer Chiefs, the win against Phunya Sele Sele will have provided a welcome boost for the Dube Birds, who have now taken six points from their last two outings.

Celtic, who won the first round encounter down in Bloemfontein, shocked the hosts when they took an early lead through Moses Spandeel, who received a cross from Jorry Merahe in the ninth minute.

However, the Birds came back strongly and in the 43rd minute Pitso Lekone leveled the match after scoring from close range following an Ashley Opperman cross.

Swallows took a deserved lead in the 60th minute when Mark McVeigh, who provided a constant threat with his crosses from the right, scored with a header after Celtic keeper Vincent Ongandzi had blocked his initial shot.

The visitors could have grabbed a share of the spoils in the dying seconds of the game but Spandeel wasted the chance as he ballooned his shot over the bar.

The result sees the Beautiful Birds move up into fourth spot on the log, while Celtic remain in eighth position.
