Birds delighted with Supa 8 draw 02/08/05
Moroka Swallows are confident they can win the SAA Supa 8 Cup after they were drawn against defending champions Supersport United.

Club spokesman Sipho Xulu described the fixture as the "perfect match" and believes the winners of the  August 17 encounter will be favourites to go all the way.

"This is a perfect match. I believe the winners of the Supa 8 will come from this game. Whoever beats the champions has a 99.9% chance of winning the trophy."

And Xulu is clearly bullish about Swallows' chances of triumphing over Supersport given their impressive record against the Pretoria-based outfit.

"We have always come out top against Supersport United. They haven't beaten us for two and a half years, home or away," he declared.

But the public relations chief insisted the players would not be taking the game lightly and added: "There is no room for history. They are arguably the best team in the country at the moment and that is a motivating factor for us."

Xulu waxed lyrical about the team's record in the competition saying: "Our performances have been outstanding in the last two years. We have missed by inches."

Last year the Birds reached the semi-finals and were runners-up in 2003. They feel this could well be their year after coming so close in recent times.

  • Moroka Swallows Football Club would like to call on all their supporters to come out and get behind the team in the Supa 8 Cup and the upcoming Castle Premiership Campaign.
