CANSA thanks South Africa

Moroka Swallows first team players showed their softer side to the nation as they participated in a fund raising event for cancer. This event was held at South Gate mall on Saturday the 7th March 2009.
"Shave or spray in solidarity with a cancer survivor" was the theme of this year's CANSA Shavathon which raised funds for CANSA's prevention programmes and patient care services.
Cancer is a very serious issue in South Africa and across the world, claiming hundreds of thousands of lives. The Cancer Association came up with the idea of a shave-a-thon as a way to both raise funds and to show empathy with cancer patients.
The participating public had a choice to either shave or spray their hair, with a donation of R50 to show support. Final figures will be released soon but so far the response was incredible with over 200 workplaces and 137 shopping centres hosting events and thousands of South Africans participating.
The Moroka Swallows players and some of the management attended the event to show our support of this worthy cause.
Some of the players that made an appearance include captain Lefa Tsusulupa, Sibusiso Khumalo, Mark Haschick, Cecil Oerson and Kagiso Denge. They were accompanied by brand manager, Siya Sangweni and the latest addition to the Swallows family, intern Zodwa Ntshongwana.
CANSA expressed their appreciation for the overwhelming support of the South African public.
"CANSA thanks all South Africans who shaved, sprayed, volunteered, hosted events, spread the word and made donations in order to make things happen in the fight against cancer," said Sue Janse van Rensburg, National Executive Director and cancer survivor.
"CANSA Shavathon has become a wonderful nation-building event that spreads a message of hope," she added.
CANSA Shavathon proud sponsors include Nedbank, SABC 2, Wahl Clippers, Dawn Wing and Newsclip Media Monitoring.
