Coach's Column

The recent signings of Giulio Giuricich and Lizo Mjempu has culminated in addressing the departure of James Mayinga for Wits University.

Lizo will add experience and depth and will create healthy competition for Shere Lekgothoane as this was the only position that we did not have someone to fulfill the needs of the team.

Lizo has shown his credentials at training, I believe that his personality is compatible with our club chemistry. He has a great left foot, good vision and he certainly knows how to defend.

At the age of 22, Giulio certainly has the qualities to go on to become a valuable member of the team. This should be seen as building for the future and ensuring that players grow within the club while learning our culture and settling down without feeling pressured to perform immediately.

It gives me great pleasure to see our players representing their country with pride. This is a reflection of their hard work and dedication to the club. Oscar Machapa, Papi (Luvhengo Mungomeni) and Lerato Chabangu make us proud, for not only do they deserve the call-ups for their outstanding performances with Moroka Swallows but they are also an inspiration to their teammates. I have no doubt that we could see some more Birds flying into the national team, where they will embrace the challenge of playing for SA.

Needless to say we are all disappointed about being knockout of the Telkom Knockout. Our performance was worthy of going through to the next round, unfortunately our efforts were not rewarded with a goal. The penalty shootout is the worst way to lose a game but we have to move on, re-group and go forward, showing our maturity and emotional intelligence and dealing with this setback.

Our focus must now be solely on the league. We must not waste any time wandering off what our objectives are. The next few games are vital so that we may go into the Christmas break knowing very well that we have laid the foundation for the final assault in the new year.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, M’Swaiswai for your valuable support, it means the world to us knowing that you are behind us.

Yours in sport,

Zeca Marques
