As title sponsor of Moroka Swallows Football Club, auto manufacturing giant Volkswagen South Africa acquired the naming rights for the club's home stadium and renamed it the Volkswagen Dobsonville Stadium from the start of the 2011/2012 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season.
The multi-purpose arena is part of a rebranding strategy which will establish the Volkswagen Dobsonville Stadium as the Home of Volkswagen Football in Africa.
The refurbishment of Volkswagen Dobsonville Stadium started in 2006 and was completed in 2009; just in time before the start of the FIFA World Cup 2010, during which the Brazilian National Football Team trained at the venue.
Phase One of the Volkswagen Dobsonville Stadium branding was completed in February 2012.
The areas that have been branded include the Front Facade, Grand Stand Branding, Tunnel Area, Scoreboard, Media Lounge and Suite, the Moroka Swallows Lounge and Players' Suite as well as the Volkswagen VIP Lounge.
Visitors to Volkswagen Dobsonville Stadium are now able to get guided tours of the stadium by Brand and Communications manager Siya Sangweni to view the exciting upgrades.
The Volkswagen Dobsonville Stadium does not only host soccer/football matches, but it also acts as an athletics venue which is fitted with a high quality synthetic track.
