'Lady Birds' update - March 5

The Moroka Swallows Ladies team will be without two key players when they travel to Springs for a match against Home Sweepers on Sunday, March 9.

Coach Nthabiseng Nkweng will be unable to call upon midfielder Phumzile Mokgomane and defender Noluthando Vilakazi, as both players have been called up to the Banyana Banyana squad for their match against Zimbabwe on March 8.

But the 'Lady Birds' will be brimming with confidence despite the absence of these two players, having thrashed Bopoleng Ladies 4-1 at Delville at the weekend.

Nkweng is confident that her team will do well this term, telling morokaswallows.co.za that she is confident they will be among the top teams when the 2007/08 season reaches a close in mid-April.

"We are doing well this term and I am glad Phumzile and Noluthando have been rewarded for their hard work by being included in the Banyana team," she said. "[But] we will continue to work hard in their absence and hopefully it will pay off for us."

Nkweng will be looking for a win against Sweepers as her team is scheduled to host Mamelodi Sundowns on March 16, in what is sure to be a thrilling encounter.

The Swallows ladies team is currently fourth in the league standings, with Palace Super Falcons topping the table.
