Swallows and Arrows draw
Moroka Swallows and Golden Arrows played to a 1-1 draw in an entertaining Castle Premiership match at Germiston Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Swallows? best chance of the first half fell to Alton Meiring in the 18th minute, when he took a snap shot at goal, but his shot was saved by Brenden Wardle.
The 'Birds' twice came close to scoring - first it was Sandile Ndlovu?s long range shot which went narrowly wide in the 29th minute, then Mark Haskins also shot wide from close range - leaving the score at 0-0 at half-time.
Swallows continued to pile the pressure on Arrows in the second half and it came as no surprise when they took the lead through Ndlovu's header in the 52nd minute.
The goal seemed to spur Arrows on, as they pushed more men forward in search of the equaliser and their pressure finally paid off in the 64th minute when Swallows failed to clear their lines and Musa Bilankulu scored with a header.
Norman Smith, who was having a quiet game by his standards, almost put 'Abafana Bes'thende' in the lead four minutes later, but his shot was saved by Greg Etafia.
Substitute Songwe Chalwe was unlucky not to put his name on the score-sheet as his deflected shot went narrowly past the upright with Wardle well-beaten.
Goodman Mazibuko then tried a clever chip over Wardle, but his shot went narrowly over the bar with Wardle left stranded in no-man's land.
Substitute Abia Nale beat the offside trap and unleashed a powerful shot that went narrowly wide.
Bevan Fransman then wasted a glorious chance to win it for Swallows in the referee's optional time when he mistimed his shot, sending it wide.
With that went Swallows chance of registering their first home victory of the season.
