The Moroka Swallows youth teams in the Soweto academy have wrapped up their maiden season in the South African Football (SAFA) Gauteng Development League.
Swallows entered the under-15, U17 and U19 sides to compete against sides such as Black Aces, Bidvest Wits, Jomo Cosmos, Mamelodi Sundowns, Rosina Sidibane, School of Excellence, Tottenham/SuperSport Academy and University of Pretoria.
The U15 team finished fourth on the log standings, the U17s came second and the U19 was seventh.
Meanwhile, the under-13s competed in a series of friendlies, as the association was setting up their league and schedule.
Former Swallows duo Goodman Mazibuko and Patrick Mabedi are the mentors responsible for the Birds' future stars at the Soweto academy - where current assistant Dennis Lota cut his teeth.
Speaking to morokaswallows.co.za, Mabedi could not hide his delight at his players' progress in the tough development league.
"I am proud of the kids and the technical team for the job well done. This is our first time playing in this league and the boys did well," he said.
"A special thanks must go to our CEO Leon Prins, Bra Sipho Xulu, Bra Bennet Mtshali and all the Swallows management for the support they give us.
"We thank our CEO for giving as and the kids opportunity but not to forget the Soweto community as well."
