Birds trio up for MTN8 award

Moroka Swallows trio Bennett Chenene, Giorgi Nergadze and Lerato Chabangu are up for the MTN8 Last Man Standing award.

The three were influential in the Birds' famous run to the 2013 MTN8 championship, beating AmaZulu, Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United in the final.

Chabangu won the MTN8 man of the match award in all three matches prior to the Final and added three goals as the side's creative force on the way to the title.

Meanwhile, Chenene was efficient from out wide, scoring two goals; including the winner - a cheeky lob over the goalkeeper - in the Final to seal victory.

Nergadze was the anchor in midfield, providing the stability and reducing the pressure on the defence. In the Final, he scored what was - possibly the goal of the tournament - a scorcher from outside the box to level matters and also picked up the man of the match accolade.

The winner of the award will be announced at the Premier Soccer League (PSL) end of season awards to be held at the Gold Reef City on Sunday.
