Moroka Swallows remain rooted to the foot of the Absa Premiership table after a 1-1 draw with SuperSport United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday night.
The Birds had looked set to earn all three points and move off the foot of the table, but a stoppage-time goal from Clayton Daniels cancelled out Siyabonga Nomvethe’s first-half goal.
The result left Craig Rosslee’s side on equal points with AmaZulu, but occupying last place on the Absa Premiership log due to an inferior goal difference.
The Birds had the first chance of the game when Lerato Chabangu turned before whipping in a wonderful cross, but Nomvethe was just not able to get a foot to the ball with the goal beckoning.
SuperSport, however, were the stronger side for the opening 15 minutes and could have gone in front when Thuso Phala burst through on goal, but his shot rose just over keeper Sage Stephens and over the goal.

More was to follow from the home side as Bradley Grobler combined nicely with Jeremy Brockie, but the New Zealand international saw his shot blocked by a defender.
Swallows then went on to enjoy an extended period of dominance, creating some good chances, the first of which saw Felix Obada doing all the hard work to beat a defender and set up a crack at goal, but his finishing let him down as the ball flashed over on 33 minutes.
A minute later and Nomvethe brought out a good save from SuperSport custodian Ronwen Williams with an angled drive from the left flank.
It was Nomvethe who was to break the deadlock when he ran on to Obada’s clever pass and finished clinically from a tight angle.
An evenly-balanced start to the second half saw SuperSport having the first shot at goal, but Stephens did very well to get down sharply and keep out Brockie’s low free kick.
More chances followed for the Tshwane side as Brockie failed to get proper contact with a back-post cross, before Dove Wome saw his volley veering just right of target.
Swallows though could have extended their lead via a 70th-minute counter-attack, but after a defensive error by the hosts, Chabangu had his goal-bound shot blocked.
It was back-to-the-walls defending from the Birds for the final minutes of the game, with the Johannesburg side very fortunate to escape an 88th-minute penalty after Phala appeared to be taken down by Tsietsi Mahoa, with the SuperSport winger seemingly harshly booked for diving.
However, Matsatsantsa were finally to get their reward when Clayton Daniels powered home a 91st-minute header.
