United blast league wide open...

Ajax Cape Town had their lead at the top of the Absa Premiership table slashed when they were beaten 3-2 by SuperSport United in Pretoria on Tuesday night.

SuperSport started the match well, and striker Kermit Erasmus had the first chance of the match. The youngster tried his luck from from 25 metres, but Ajax 'keeper Hans Vonk was well placed to stop it.

United kept up the pressure, and Erasmus scored his first senior goal for the club in the 22nd minute, latching on to a through-ball from Fikru Tefera and slotting it past past Vonk.

Ajax equalised seven minutes later when Nathan Paulse capitalised on mistake by the SuperSport defence and beat 'keeper Denis Onyango with a well-placed shot.

The home side dominated for the rest of the first half, and Daine Klate could have extended their lead four minutes before the break, but found his close-range effort blocked by Vonk who also blocked the follow-up by Erasmus.

The 'Urban Warriors' took the lead five minutes into the second half thanks to a goal from Franklin Cale. The lanky midfielder scored with powerful shot from just inside the area, after a defensive lap by Sibonisa Gaxa gave him a free run on goal.

The introduction of substitute Katlego Mashego proved to be the turning point for the home side, and he brought SuperSport level in the 67th minute by heading in Elias Pelembe's free-kick

Five minutes later Gaxa delivered an excellent cross towards just outside the box, which was brilliantly controlled by Daine Klate who placed the ball into the net with his weaker right foot.

The Pretoria side is now just one point behind Ajax in the league standings, promising an exciting end to the 2007/08 Absa Premiership season!
