Petrus Mahlatsi not guilty

Bloemfontein Celtic striker, Petrus Mahlatsi has been found not guilty by a SAFA Disciplinary Committee hearing on a charge of doping.

Mahlatsi was charged for contravening the regulations in terms of the South African Institute of Drug Free Sport Act Number 14 of 1997, as well as that of the SAFA Anti-Doping regulations.

Mahlatsi tested positive on 23 November 2007 for Betamethasone, a Glucocorticosteroid, which is a banned substance under the WADA Code of Conduct.

It was alleged that Mahlatsi was administered one ampoul of Seleton-Soluspan which contained the drug in order to control pain.

According to Mahlatsi?s doctor, he was given this to treat a knee injury and stated that the drug does not enhance performance.

However, the substance Glucocorticosteroid is allowed if necessary for medical treatment.? But such use must have the necessary Theraputic Use Exemption, which both Mahlatsi and his doctor were unaware of.

The SAFA Disciplinary Committee after viewing all evidence declared the charge a 'non-offenc' and declared the Bloemfontein Celtic player not guilty.
