SuperSport eye Pirates 'double'

SuperSport United's Absa Premiership title credentials will face another challenging test this Saturday when the Tshwane team takes on Orlando Pirates at the Johannesburg Stadium (kickoff 8pm).

The Tshwane team fell to their first league defeat in almost four months when they ended on the wrong side of a 2-0 score line against AmaZulu, with Siyabonga Mkhwanazi and Jan Sillo netting for the KwaZulu-Natal side.

The defeat was even more galling for Gavin Hunt's team, as victory over AmaZulu would have moved them into a four point lead and significantly strengthened their hold on pole position.

Instead they merely retained a one point lead over Ajax Cape Town (who now have a game in hand) and allowed hard-charging Santos to close in by three points.

'Matsatsantsa' now face the prospect of playing Orlando Pirates ? a side who still have slim prospects of winning the title ? away from home. Luckily for United, Pirates have been in poor form lately, winning just one of their last six league matches.

"We have nothing to fear against Pirates. We need to focus on our strengths and worry about how we are going to play,? Supersport coach Gavin Hunt told the club's official website.

"If we keep Pirates in their half and dominate possession, we should have more chances than them to score and then it is up to the players who get into those positions to finish off," he added.

This past weekend the Buccaneers drew 0-0 at home to strugglers Jomo Cosmos, although they only had themselves to blame for not picking up three points after missing several good scoring chances.

When the teams met earlier in the season, SuperSport won a thrilling match 3-1 thanks to goals from Siboniso Gaxa, Bongani Khumalo and Katlego Mashego. Teko Modise netted Pirates' goal direct from a free kick.

In head-to-head statistics the 'Buccaneers' have won 16 matches to 'Matsatsantsa's' 10 in the 34 league encounters between the two teams since 1991.
