Mashaba - 'Pirates assistant spot vacant'
New Orlando Pirates head coach Owen da Gama is still without a formal assistant coach and the local rumour mill is working over-time ahead of the club making any official announcement.
Da Gama, who took over at Pirates just over two weeks ago, saw his team suffer a 4-5 Telkom Knockout Last 16 loss, on penalties, to Thanda Royal Zulu - formerly known as Benoni Premier United.
Former assistant coaches Papi Khomane and Chris O'Loughlin were visible absentees on the Pirates bench that day, which was just over a week ago.
Another train of thought has linked former 'Bucs' captain John Moeti to the assistant coach's position, but Pirates team manager Ephraim 'Shakes' Mashaba could neither confirm nor deny that rumour.
"All I can reveal at this present time is that Khomane and O'Loughlin will not be working under Da Gama as assistants," Mashaba told the official Pirates website.
"They have met with the people at the office to discuss their respective futures with the club. In terms of new appointments, the coach will submit his list this afternoon [Friday]," continued 'Shakes'.
"[And] once the necessary procedures have been followed, we will call a press conference to announce the new assistant or assistants."
