Preview - Chiefs v Premier Utd
After announcing the recent acquisition of midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala from National First Division outfit Free State Stars, Kaizer Chiefs face big-league newbies Benoni Premier United in a Castle Premiership match at Loftus on Sunday afternoon (kick-off 3.45pm).
Both Chiefs and United started the New Year with losses - the former losing 0-2 to SuperSport United and the latter succumbing 0-1 to the struggling Golden Arrows on Wednesday.
Since this was United's second league defeat in as many matches, 'Rabbits' management came down hard on the players, warning them against any more poor performances.
United Communications Officer 'Oupa' Mnguni demanded that his players "changed their attitudes and started winning games".
"We can't afford to go back to the Mvela League," the United official told The Sowetan. "They will go down if they don't heed our pleas."
Chiefs manager Bobby Motaung, however, was singing a different tune this week, with his worries more to do with the league title than relegation woes.
"We're in the running for league honours, that is why we'd acquired the services of Siphiwe [Tshabalala] to beef up the squad," Motaung told The Sowetan.
In his usual confident mood, Motaung said that the 'Rabbits' would not be easy meat, but added emphatically "that we need to beat all these small teams to win the league".
