Chiefs wallop Arrows
Kaizer Chiefs handed Golden Arrows a 4-2 drubbing in an entertaining encounter at Loftus Stadium on Wednesday evening to claim their third Absa Premiership victory of the 2007/08 season.
Arrows' rising star Kagisho Dikgacoi scored a brace for the spirited visitors but goals from Siphiwe Tshabalala, David Obua, Cyril Nzama and Gerald Sibeko sealed an emphatic win for Chiefs and spared them the ignominy of a fifth successive draw.
Tshabalala came close to giving Chiefs an early lead with a fine long range effort but goalkeeper Miphy Lupini denied the Bafana Bafana winger with a fantastic save.
Chiefs continued to pressure on their opponents, with David Mathebula sending a 20-metre drive off target, before Tshabalala drew first blood for the 'Amakhosi' in the 14th minute. The 23-year-old shot across Lupini from the left of the penalty area and rippled the back of the net for his second goal of the season and his first for Chiefs in the Absa Premiership.
A few minutes later Mathebula again shot wide of the Arrows goal, before Chiefs had to replace the injured Derrick Spencer with Fabian McCarthy just past the midway point of the first half.
The momentary disruption in the heart of defence perhaps played a role in Arrows' equaliser, with Dikgacoi rising highest to head home Thanduyise Khuboni's corner in the 28th minute.
The teams were locked 1-1 at half time and 'Amakhosi' coach Muhsin Ertugral made a tactical switch at the break, sending on former Arrows striker Mabhuti Khenyeza in place of winger Arthur Zwane to give the hosts more bite up front.
But it was 'Abafana Bes'thende' who initially threatened to score next, as Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune was forced into turning Njabulo Manqana's shot out for a corner kick.
On the hour mark though, Khuboni fouled Tshabalala just outside the Arrows penalty area and David Obua scored direct from the free kick, his first club goal since the quarterfinals of the SAA Supa8 cup in August 2006.
Nine minutes later it was Nzama's turn to get on the score sheet, as the captain headed home from Mathebula's cross to put Chiefs 3-1 up.
Dikgacoi pulled one back for Arrows in the 84th minute, heading past Khune from a corner to complete his brace, but three minutes later Sibeko drilled a shot past Lupini to seal the points for Chiefs.
