Bafana coach to arrive next week

New Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira will arrive next week to begin his work with South Africa's national team, the South African Football Association (SAFA) announced on Friday.

The higly-respected Brazilian mentor, who signed a contract with SAFA last year, delayed his arrival by six months to take some time away from the game after the last World Cup finals, where he was in charge of his native country.

Press agency Reuters reports that Parreira is planning on holding a training camp with the national team on February 7 - a date set aside by FIFA for international friendlies.

According to Reuters, this training camp would allow Parreira to call up the European-based Bafana players.

SAFA Chief Executive Officer Raymond Hack said Parreira had asked for a training camp to get to know the players rather than playing an international friendly.

Parreira's first game in charge will be an African Nations Cup qualifier against Chad (away) on Sunday, March 25.
