Sundowns demolish Arrows
Defending Castle Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns moved to the top of the 2006/07 PSL standings after handing Golden Arrows a 3-0 drubbing at Super Stadium on Saturday evening.
Surprise Moriri scored a brace in the first half and Josta Dladla added another one in the second half as the 'Brazilians' strengthen their chances of retaining the league title.
Both teams started the match well, but it was Arrows who threatened to score earlier on in the first half.
Norman Smith almost put 'Abafana Bes'thende' in the lead in as early as the second minute when he dribbled his way past the Sundowns defence, only for his shot to be saved by 'Downs 'keeper Calvin Marlin. Papi Zothwane then saw his shot go wide in the 19th minute.
Arrows were to rue those missed chances three minutes later when Moriri scored from a cross from Lerato Chabangu.
Smith almost scored an equaliser for Arrows in the 30th minute, but Marlin once again pulled off a superb save to deny the Arrows striker.
Moriri completed his brace in the 40th minute after he tapped in Dladla's brilliant cross - leaving the score at 2-0 in favour of Sundowns at half-time.
The 'Brazilians' continued their dominance in the second half and it came as no surprise when they found their third goal through Dladla, who tapped in Jose Torrealba's cross.
The third goal seemed to take the wind out of Arrows' sails as the Durban-based side failed to recover from that knockout punch and in the end, the 'Brazilians' walked off with all the three points on offer on the day.
This timely win took Sundowns to the top of the Castle Premiership standings, but Arrows remain in 12th position, despite losing.
