AmaZulu, SuperSport draw
Struggling AmaZulu salvaged a point against high-flying SuperSport United in a Castle Premiership match played at Princess Magogo Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
SuperSport attacked early in the game and in the eighth minute AmaZulu's Nkosana Xaba tackled Teko Modise from behind and United were awarded a free-kick.
Modise stood up and to take the free-kick but he failed to take advantage.
AmaZulu then found their rhythm and began attacking and were rewarded in the 12th minute, after a quick one-two involving Shoes Moshoeu, Lucky Mzizi and Siyabonga Mkhanazi in the centre.
Moshoeu made the final pass to Litha Ngxabi, who took a shot to put 'Usuthu' 1-0 ahead.
After the goal, AmaZulu were the favourites to win as United struggled and the score-line remained 1-0 at the half-time break.
In the second half, SuperSport pushed numbers forward, desperately trying to find the equalising goal.
As a result, Modise played a good through-ball for Sibusiso Mahlangu in the 50th minute and the midfielder scored the equaliser.
With the score now 1-1, United looked the more determined side. Katlego Mashego watched in dismay as his brilliant 55th-minute strike hit the cross-bar and AmaZulu cleared the danger.
SuperSport continued to attack in the 65th minute and James Chamanga's fine ground shot was saved by Kemogo Camara in the AmaZulu goals.
In stoppage time, Modise was sent off after a second booking when he tackled Sphesihle Ngobese from behind. Lucky Modise then took advantage of the space provided by Modise's dismissal.
An individual effort saw him dribble his way into the SuperSport 18-yard area but his shot hit the side-netting.
SuperSport are still in the running for the championship as they are only three points behind the log leader while AmaZulu remain at the bottom of the Premiership standings.
