Stars and Leopards draw
Log-leaders Silver Stars were held to a 0-0 draw at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium by struggling Black Leopards on Sunday afternoon.
Goalkeepers Wayne Sandilands and Thabang Stemmer were on top form, as they both kept clean sheets, whilst their outfield teammates made enough chances to snatch a win for either side.
The action pinged around both teams' penalty areas as the two outfits went in search of a win.
Black Leopards' Luvhengo Mungomeni was the first to test Wayne Sandilands in the Silver Stars goal in the 16th minute. Four minutes later, down at the other end, Thuso Phala put Thabang Stemmer through his paces.
Silver Stars had the better of the first half goal opportunities, with most of them falling to the excellent Simba Marumo. He, however, was stopped by Leopards' former Buccaneers goalkeeper Stemmer. Marumo was denied twice by Stemmer from close range before the break.
Leopards? new recruit Mandla Zwane's 43rd-minute free-kick was tipped around by Sandilands to end the first-half drama.
The visitors began the second half in the ascendency. They managed to fashion a few good scoring chances, but Sandilands was there to keep Stars in the game.
In the 48th minute Robert Ng'ambi sneaked into a scoring position, but the excellent Sandilands smothered his goal-bound shot.
Just after the hour, Jabu Maluleke's free-kick was block again by Sandilands, who was forced to make another save from the same adversary just three minutes later.
One last attack from Simba Marumo, in the 88th minute, saw his free header go wide of Stemmer's goal, to end the game all square.
