Van Wyk, Nkosi selected for Banyana

Moroka Swallows Ladies stars Janine van Wyk and Belinda Nkosi have been selected for the South African national team that will play in the fifth African Women's Football Championship Preliminary match against Mozambique on Saturday, March 11.

Van Wyk and Nkosi are not the first Swallows ladies to represent their country.

The club boasts a number of current and former players in the various national ladies teams, including Rosa Nzima, Shirley Ruela, Sesebo Makhopa, Belinda Nkosi, Thokozile Mndaweni, Busisiwe Sibanyoni and Phumzile 'General' Mokgamane.

Banyana Banyana, like many other African national women's teams, have not always enjoyed the best of support technically, materially and otherwise, but according to South African Football Association (SAFA) CEO Raymond Hack this situation is being rectified.

"We are currently in the process of finalising plans to take Banyana Banyana to great heights not only in Africa, but in World football as well. As a first step we have roped in one of the best qualified coaches in South Africa, Augustine Makalakalane, to be part of the team's coaching staff.

"Besides possessing a Level 3 Coaching Certificate, Makalakalane attended a two-month Advanced Coaching Course at the University of Leipziq in Germany and passed with distinction," the Johannesburg-based lawyer told the official SAFA website.

The Banyana Banyana-Mozambique match will take place at the Caledonian Stadium in Pretoria on Saturday and kick-off is at 3pm.
