Gordon makes Bafana shortlist

SAFA has shortlisted seven possible candidates to take over the 'hotseat' as Bafana Bafana coach. The candidates are Brazilians Alberto Perreira, Zico, Luis Phillipe Scolari, Frenchmen Claude Leroy, Gerrard Houllier and local coaches Jomo Sono and Gordon Igesund.

Ajax Cape Town coach Gordon Igesund is probably the most successful coach in South Africa, having won the Premier Soccer League title three times with three different clubs - first with Manning Rangers in 1996, then with Orlando Pirates in 2001 and, finally, with Santos in 2002.

Ajax Boss John Comitis told the club's official website: "Gordon still has one year left on his contract, but if the nation calls we will have to reach a compromise with the relevant parties should they contact us for his services."
