'Junior Birds' off to the US
Monday June 12 2006
Sibusiso Mlaba, Evert Valiapis, Kelly Varner and Nkosana Mahalamba - all members of the Moroka Swallows Youth Development Programme - will leave South Africa to attend trials in Texas, United States.
The three youngsters were spotted by a visiting talent scout and will leave our shores on Youth Day, June 16. They are expected to be back on Tuesday, June 27.
"The youngsters have been invited for trials by the Brad Friedel Premier Academy in the southern state of Ohio and if they make it past this first stage then they will placed with a European team, where they are expected to undergo further development," Reginald Ketse, coach of the Birds' Under-17 squad told the Moroka Swallows official website.
Friedel is a goalkeeper at English Premiership side Blackburn Rovers.
The four players will return in time to join their counterparts in their quest to win the Sakha'abanqobi Tournament, which kicks-off on Thursday, June 28.
