Hunt: 'The boy is special'

Moroka Swallows' new signing Evans Gwekwerere has the potential to set the 2006/07 Castle Premiership alight, according to the 'Birds' mentor Gavin Hunt.

The 20 year-old striker has shown glimpses of brilliance during the Swallows 2006/07 Nelson Mandela Metro Pre-Season Tour.

"He has bundles of potential and is definitely a player to watch in the future," Hunt told the official Moroka Swallows website.

Gweklwerere scored a brilliantly executed header on his debut, when Swallows beat their 'sister club' Bay United 3-0 to win the inaugural Volkswagen Challenge Trophy in a match played at the Motherwell Stadium on Saturday, July 8.

Other scorers on the day were debutant Sibusiso Dlamini and Bongani Mbele.

The former Black Leopards and Hellenic coach was also cautious in warning the Zimbabwean not to expect the going to be easy at the 'Dube Birds'.

"He faces stiff competition upfront where we have other good strikers in Songwe Chalwe and of course Mame Niang."

Hunt, who is due to leave for England on Wednesday where he will undergo his final UEFA A Licence certificate test - mentioned that he was pleased with the general outcome of the trip to the Eastern Cape.

The soft-spoken coach mentioned that he was pleased with the general outcome of the trip to the Eastern Cape.

"It was a very good team-building exercise, which we combined with a number of our Social Responsibility initiatives in the area.

"I am quite satisfied in the manner in which the new players have integrated with the rest of the squad."
