Parreira - 'Bafana can bounce back'

New Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Alberto Parreira believes all is not lost for South Africa despite their dull 0-0 draw with Congo in the 2008 African Cup of Nations qualifier this past weekend.

"The competition is still wide open," Parreira told The Sowetan.

He added: "We have to deliver in the next game [against Zambia in the second Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Lusaka on October 7].

"There are more matches to play. It was clear Congo came here for a draw and got what they were looking for. There was no space, they were defending.

"It is clear that the past matches between South Africa and Congo were always tight. This one was no different as there was no space.

"It was important for us to win at home today. We should have won because we created lots of chances. When we play Congo away their attitude might change."

Parreira concluded: "I saw a lot of good things, some good skill and I liked a lot of what I saw. In the last 15 minutes, coach [Pitso Mosimane] tried his best to bring on more attacking players, but that still did not help."

Parreira, who is clearly under pressure before he even starts his new job after revelations about his pay, will face the media on Tuesday.
