Angola to host 2010 AFCON

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Monday selected Angola as the hosts of the 2010 African Cup of Nations finals (AFCON).
The Southern Africans country triumphed over strong challenges from Libya, Nigeria and a joint Gabon-Equatorial Guinea bid.
The 2006 World Cup competitors will become the first Portuguese-speaking nation to host the event, six months before the 2010 World Cup finals take place in South Africa.
CAF also announced that Gabon & Equatorial Guinea will jointly stage the tournament in 2012, while Libya will host it in 2014.
This unprecedented decision marks the first time that CAF has named hosts for three successive tournaments at the same time.
Nigeria, the only country to lose out in CAF's new arrangement, has been selected as a reserve candidate should any of the hosts be unable to stage the competition.
CAF general secretary Mustapha Fahmy also said they would back Nigeria to stage the 2009 Under-17 World Championship should they declare their interest in doing so.
"We have taken this decision to name all the Nations Cup hosts at the same time to ensure that our hosts have adequate time to prepare for the competitions," Fahmy old BBC Sport.
"We also wanted to develop the game in countries that have not had the chance of hosting the tournament.
"It was also important for our sponsors, so that they have a clear idea of what CAF is doing with its competitions over the next few years."
