'Gio' pens three-year Brondby deal

Former Ajax Cape Town player Giovanni Rector has completed a short-term trial with Danish side Brondby IF; and has subsequently signed a lucrative three-year contract.
Rector comes from the South African club Ajax Cape Town, where he has played for one season.
Before that he played in Belgian club Excelsior Mouscron, where he attracted interest from several English-based clubs.
"Giovanni will provide us with creativity and pace upfront, he has shown a great eye for the ball, and he's a very direct player.
"We have lots of creativity on the team, and we are pretty competent with our build ups, but we have to score some goals as well. That's Gio's role together with new signing Hannes Sigurdsson (Icelandic player from English Championship side Stoke City). They will hopefully form a great partnership upfront, and I am sure that they will score a lot of goals," coach Rene Meulensteen told his club's official website.
"I know that some will blame us for not having signed high profile players, but as a coach I want the club to sign players that are good, and have the potential to be even greater.
"They have to have the talent, be hungry and ambitious. Both Hannes and Giovanni possess these qualities, and therefore they fit perfectly into our plans to build up a great team."
Rector played a game against FC Nordsjaelland's reserves during his time at the club, where he impressed the coaching staff with his direct style and finishing skills.
He will wear shirt number 12.
