PSL, PA Sport launch media service

The Premier Soccer League (PSL), and media partner PA Sport (South Africa), have launched a new publication whose intention is to provide journalists with information to use when compiling match previews.

Entitled the 'PSL Update', the publication consists of intrinsic data which is geared towards assisting the media with their match previews.

The information provided is divided into a number of different sections, including 'Match Records', 'Goal Details', 'When goals were scored (i.e. scored and conceded)', 'Cards received' etc.

The 'Match Records' section is also divided into sub-sections, which cover areas such as the number of 'Goals scored/conceded per match', 'Record against top half of the table' and vice versa, 'Record when scoring first', 'Record when drawing/leading/losing at half-time' etc.

Sponsored by Castle Lager (South African Breweries Ltd.), the service will only cover Castle Premiership matches, and will be sent out every Monday, latest Tuesday morning during the season.

"We are hopeful that this service will encourage stats-based reporting, and therefore complement the largely opinion-based reporting that we are accustomed to," PA Sport (SA) Chief Executive Patrick Kuwana, commented.

Kuwana also mentioned that the league and PA Sport were entertaining the possibility of using the data when assessing the different nominees in the annual Castle Premiership Awards.

Media houses are encouraged to contact Ntambi Ravele, PSL General Manager for Marketing and Communications, in order to register for the service.
